A written instruction manual with pictures is also included.
The ELLA dirndl dress sewing pattern contains 1 ZIP file and 3 PDFs: the pattern (XXS - 3XL) in A4, A0, and US LETTER formats, general information about the pattern and how to print it, a technical sheet (as pictured), and illustrated sewing instructions. You can print the pattern at home and tape the pages together by aligning the diamond shapes along the page edges. Alternatively, you can have the A0 file printed at a print shop. You only need to print ONE PDF, not all three. The only difference is the paper size. Please check the paper size used in your country and for your printer, and refer to the PDF with the corresponding label. Please carefully read the general information PDF included with this purchase to ensure correct printing, and the sewing instructions for further details.
This pattern is WITHOUT seam allowance. Since some of my customers use the imperial system, and I and many of my other customers use the metric system, omitting seam allowance in my pattern is simply the easiest compromise. I've taken care to prepare this pattern so that you only need to add the same seam allowance of your choice around all the pattern pieces. In my tutorial video and written sewing instructions, I use the metric system.
This is an advanced project. I've made sure to explain every single step in both the video and the sewing instructions so that anyone can follow along.
MATERIALS Corset
- 100 cm of fashion fabric (I used a bouclé made from a cotton blend), measured against a standard 140 cm wide fabric
- 50 cm lining fabric (I used 100% cotton poplin), measured from a standard 140 cm wide fabric
- 100 cm of non-woven fabric (I used H180 Vlieseline for this)
- either a 45 cm zipper or 9 x 1 cm wide buttons + a 25 cm zipper (choose one option)
- 150 cm per ribbon for decoration (I used 2 different ribbons, 1 satin bias tape (3 cm wide) and pearls for the neckline)
- 300 cm bias tape (3 cm wide) + cord for piping
- relevant thread
ROCK MATERIALS
- 160 cm of fashion fabric (I used 100% cotton poplin), measured against a standard 140 cm wide fabric
- optional: 30cm of bag fabric (I used 100% cotton poplin for this) measured against a 140cm wide standard fabric, otherwise use the same fabric as the skirt.
- 20 cm fleece (I used H180 Vlieseline for this)
- 240 cm per ribbon for decoration (I used 1 satin bias tape (3 cm wide) for the hem)
- relevant thread
- Sewing machine with straight stitch and decorative stitches
- Overlock machine or household machine with zigzag/overlock stitch
A MOCK-UP IS A MUST! Because every fabric behaves differently and every body shape is unique.
